Measurement and Reporting

To ensure that we are improving IT success in NZ, we need to set targets and measure what we are doing to improve things.

Of course the most obvious would be return on investment to shareholders.

The strategic plan should be measured as to how much of it was delivered successfully.

Below these there are other tools such as CMM, etc. I am not very familiar with the right tools to use, but believe that you do need to track what you are doing, to see step change.

What’s your opinion?

What do you think of Measurement and Reporting? Is there anything you think we have missed?

Alan Miles says:

I am a fan of business process automation ... throughout an organisation. If tasks are logged consecutively through a simple interface that is not detrimental to getting the job done, then the cost of each task can be directly assessed, auditing of processes just happens, procedure is reliably followed, and any planned improvements can come with direct cost / benefit analysis done very easily. Such systems exist and work in the real world in general, and even in case management scenarios.
