Upcoming Getting I.T. Right and Project Management Institute Seminar
Better Business Cases
Wednesday, 20 February 2013
Presentation Topic: Better Business Cases
The primary objective of Better Business Cases is to enable better informed decisions on public investments as part of projects, programmes and plans so they are well placed to deliver the intended benefits for New Zealand, whilst managing the risks and costs. Better Business Cases comprises the 5 Case Model, which sits at the heart of BBC, and is a collaborative process for decision-making, with stakeholders constructively engaged throughout the process. The New Zealand "concise" version is based on the UK version, with the consent of the UK-based BBC Standards Board. The BBC seminar will provide an awareness of the purpose of BBC, what is expected, when it applies, how it works, who is involved, where to get support and planned future developments. More information can be found at www.infrastructure.govt.nz/publications/betterbusinesscases

Rodney Barber is based at The Treasury in Wellington and is the lead of the Better Business Case programme for New Zealand. He is also a member of the BBC Standards Board based in the UK. IT Certified Professional (ITCP): What It Is and Why It Matters
Thursday, 26 July 2012, Owen G Glenn Building
This seminar was successfully held on Thursday 26 July.
Ray Delany's presentation is available for download here. A video of the seminar is also available on YouTube.
One of the key reasons why IT projects fail and cost Kiwis so much is because we lack an agreed standard for the IT profession and with that, a lack of accountability when things go wrong.
Getting IT Right in conjunction with NZCS is pleased to bring to you a seminar on "IT Certified Professional (ITCP): What It Is and Why It Matters".
This is a great opportunity to hear about the first step New Zealand is taking to establish IT as a true profession.
IT Certified Professional (ITCP): What It Is and Why It Matters
In late 2009 NZCS released the IT Certified Professional (ITCP) accreditation for senior IT professionals. Our profession (ICT) was one of the last to put in place an independent certification programme. But what is it and why does it matter?
At this seminar NZCS President Ray Delany will talk us through IT life before ITCP and the importance of self-regulated professional standards from both the individual viewpoint and the profession as a whole. ITCP is New Zealand's overarching professional certification for senior IT Professionals, created and operated by NZCS, the independent professional body of the IT industry in New Zealand. It is designed for those operating at a level appropriate for offering professional advice in IT – based on a background of education, experience and ethics.
Whether you believe in Certification or not, this is a great opportunity to find out more about the whys and whats of ITCP.
About The Speaker
Ray Delany is President of the New Zealand Computer Society and has been working as an IT professional for 32 years. His career spans blue chip corporates, public sector and SMEs and he has experience from both the vendor and buyer perspective. Ray is number 32 on the list of founding IT Certified Professionals and he is passionate about the development of professional practice in New Zealand as one of the ways to make sure that we get IT right.

Organisational Maturity – Creating a World-Class IT Capability
As organisations of all sizes seek out innovation and new ways of doing business they soon begin to realise that in the 21st century very little happens without technology being at its core. Despite this (or perhaps because of this) most IT teams struggle to effectively operate existing technology let alone keep pace with well-managed projects that enable innovation. At this Getting I.T. Right presentation, Owen McCall will set out why this occurs and what you can do to build a world class IT capability that underpins innovation and growth.
About the Speaker
Owen McCall is an experienced management consultant and CIO/executive who is passionate about using technology to deliver real business value. Owen has over 20 years experience in the IT industry and has vast experience in all elements of the systems life cycle from the development and implementation of IT strategies through to IT operations. He has worked with technology throughout his career as a consultant for Deloitte Consulting, a lead partner at Deloitte’s Outsourcing practice in Australasia and as CIO at the Warehouse.
